6th Street Station

6th Street Station started out as a search for a new office space for Sunlit Architecture. What started out as a small project turned out to be the largest project to go through the Town of Crested Butte's entitlement process. The project consists of four blocks totaling approximately 62,500sqft of a mixed use development. All of the parking has been placed under ground, out of site and out of mind. This allowed for the ground level to be devoted to a network of pedestrian streets and plaza spaces. Included in these community plaza spaces are a children’s interactive fountain, a passive park / picnic space and social gathering spaces. The key challenge for this project was to get it to fit within the very unique historical context and scale of Crested Butte. This has been accomplished by breaking large buildings down into individual, connected and stand alone, buildings with smaller footprints and scales, while still respecting the necessities of the program and usage needs of the project.
